OneMama.org founder Siobhan Neilland makes a life-saving statement at The 2016 Oscars Vanity Fair Party. Siobhan rocked a dress from The OneMama Collection, a clothing line she created which donates 100% of proceeds to fund her nonprofit organization.

The stunning bodice of the dress is woven from up-cycled paper beads handcrafted in the Ugandan village supported by her nonprofit. While other celebrities at this event looked gorgeous in their designer threads, it was the OneMama dress that stole the show: “I had celebrities coming up to me the entire night, asking me what my dress dress was all about. Everyone knew it stood for something powerful, and they wanted to be a part of it!” Not only is the dress stunning, but it also saves 1,200 lives through maternal health programs in rural Uganda.

IMG_3158In the OneMama Clinic’s rural region, medical resources are scarce and maternal health facilities are near nonexistent. The clinic provides prenatal care, sanitary conditions for women to have their babies with the assistance of traditional midwife Mama Jamira, as well as postnatal healthcare for mothers and their babies. “When I shared the story behind the dress and what it stood for, people were blown away,” said Siobhan, “At Kevin Hart’s after-party a big-name producer came up to me, pointed to the dress and exclaimed, ‘you’re doing something right!’ After I told him about our programs in Uganda and how the dress saves over 1000 lives he paused for a moment before saying, ‘Wow. See, I knew you were doing something right.”

This dress is continues to make life-saving statements at a diverse array of events, including New York Fashion Week and most recently, at the United Nation’s 60th Commission on the Status of Women, for which Siobhan’s nonprofit hosted their own Parallel Event. As the OneMama family continues to expand, we are all reminded that yes, indeed, we are doing something right.
